Northern Lights trophy
This is a brand new event played in Umeå in the north of Sweden.
Located near the northeast coast of Sweden, Umeå is often referred to as the “capital of northern Sweden”. Umeå has a great curling facility with a modern 6-sheet rink. The club has hosted multiple curling championships and is looking forward welcoming teams to this event. The newly crowned World Mixed Champion Johan Nygren has Umeå as his home club.
As if the curling in itself was'nt enough you'll have a good chance of seeing the northern lights and experience lots of other outdoor activities to check out of your bucket list.
The event will have 12 men's and 12 women's teams competing in 2 groups each. Groupwinners to the semifinals and overall ranked 3-6 to quarterfinals. Dinner on Saturday is included as always.
Since this event is outside the usual regions for high level tournaments this will provide an excellent oppurtunity for teams to gather extra Nordic Curling Tour points leading up to the bonus money in the rankings.

Competition & registration
About the event
Nordic Lights Trophy will be played at Umeå curling rink and will be hosting 12 men's and 12 women's teams for a total purse of 80 000,- sek.
- Dinner Saturday at the rink included for 4 people. Additional people can pay directly at the dinner.
- Women's division has 12 teams divided into 2 groups. Groupwinners advance straight to semis. Overall ranked 3-6 between the 2 groups proceed to quarterfinals.
- Men's division has 12 teams divided into 2 groups of 6. Groupwinners advance straight to semis. Overall ranked 3-6 between the 2 groups proceed to quarterfinals.
- There are no 3rd prize games, only final.
Practice & LSD
15 minutes before scheduled starting time there is 5 min practice per team where team first on the schedule plays first with stones according to color on top of the scoreboard.
Team that has had practice plays one LSD. First team chooses anti clockwise or clockwise rotation. Next team plays the opposite rotation.
This LSD is to decide hammer and later used if internal results isn’t enough to decide playoff-teams. The worst LSD is later removed from results.
Practice and LSD will be announced.
Game
All matches are played over 8 ends with an extra end if necessary. If no points are scored in the extra end the teams will play one draw to the button for the game.
Team with hammer in the extra end will decide which team draws first. Free choice of turn for the first team. The second team plays the opposite turn. No-tick rule are in effect.
Playoffs
During the whole playoff the highest ranked team can choose hammer or stones and will get the lowest ranked team.

Entry fee is 6000,- sek.

Travel
Umeå Airport is an airport located on the southern outskirts of the city of Umeå, Sweden.
The airport is located about 5.4 kilometres from Umeå city centre. Flights go to/from Stockholm Arlanda regularly and the fares are usually at a good price when booking some time in advance.
The curlingrink is fairly close to the players hotel in the city centre but it's recomended that you book a rental car when landing at the airport.
Hotel
We have partnered with First Hotel Dragonen which is 10 minutes walking distance from the rink. All teams booking this hotel through webshop will get a better price pr night. Wifi and breakfast included. Free cancellation up to 14 days before check in.
